BAM! Those are some bright pants. Yup, I pulled out the trusty yellow mellows for my latest trip to Scottsdale. What better place? With the neutral backdrop from the surrounding desert I was a bright pop of color. I have had these linen pants for a few years but have only worn them a handful of times. I never felt like I styled them correctly or that they were “me.” But for some reason I was drawn to keep them. When I am asked what inspires me, my answer has always been the same – everyday people. While attending the Biscuit Home party a few weeks ago with my friend Molly, I saw a girl wearing these really cute yellow pants. From the moment she walked through the door my first thought was how cute and summery she looked and my second was – wait a minute, I have those pants! After a night analyzing what made her pants so much cuter than mine I decided I needed a good trip to the tailor. The day after I arrived back in Dallas, I was there. I decided to take them in a bit at the waist and to shorten them about six inches. I had always worn them with wedges but my style has changed over the years and instead of grabbing wedges, I now reach for the flats. Potentially answering my question as to why these pants never felt like “me.”  After receiving them back from the tailor, I was one happy customer. They are about the brightest thing I own but I think that is why I like them so much. Switching it up in the fashion department every now and then is never a bad idea!

Superga Lace-Up sneakers

I have been a converse girl for what seems like forever (seen here). One of my first pair of shoes that I can remember were hightop converse. Die.hard.fan. Until recently I did not think there was any shoe that could sway my love for the classics, until my super sweet sister-in-law surprised the hubs and I with our own pair of Superga’s. If you haven’t heard of them, let me explain. They definitely aren’t newbies to the game – started in 1911 in Italy the 2750 was the favorite shoe for Italians on the go. Fast forward to 2014 and the iconic shoe is still a top pick amongst Italians, celebrities, and others alike. With its wide range of colors, fabrics, and prints each season the shoe continues to be in the forefront of sneaker fashion. I didn’t think it was possible to replace my converse but these lace-up sneakers have quickly become my staple.

Traveling is one of my all time favorite things to do. It really is one of my passions so I am beyond excited to bring you more travel centered posts. From city guides, to places I want to visit, I hope you enjoy! The first stop for this new series is none other than sunny Scottsdale! I traveled there a few weeks ago and didn’t want to leave. The food, the scenery, the sun…more to come on that later! Let’s chat about packing. YUCK! For as much as I love traveling I hate packing just the same. You always over pack or under pack. You feel like you don’t have the right thing or you do but left it at home. It has always been a struggle for me! I have talked about packing on this blog before (Packing Smart :: Portavi), but the more I travel the more I learn. Through the years I have made a mental list of a few items that I can’t leave home without. These items have been life savers over the past few years of traveling. I won’t spill all the secrets yet but I can tell you near the top of my list – a striped top. Not only is it appropriate for any occasion, it always looks great, and can be used as a neutral. It doesn’t matter which pattern you are wearing, a striped top is sure to fit! Wether I have needed a swimsuit cover-up, a shirt to go on a walk, something to dress-up a pair of jeans, or something to mix with a nice skirt, the striped top has never failed me.

So instead of packing a number of different shirts for every different occasion, consider a striped top. You will be amazed at the wear you will get out of it and the compliments that will surely follow! Since it is such a necessary item for your upcoming travels, I have selected a few choices that will fit the bill:
