Acapulco Chair – Living Room

Living Room: When it comes to a living room I have three main musts: needs to be comfy, should have enough seating for five or more people, and should reflect your personality. When it comes to my living room, it has been a work in progress. I am the type of personality which wants everything finished the moment it is started. Call it lack of patience but I really have a hard time taking things slowly. Now, when you are decorating a home you must keep in mind that not everything will be finished swiftly. It takes time. This idea took time to adjust to. I have been in this house two years and am just now starting to feel like it is coming together. Although it has taken longer than I would have liked I think I have stayed true to my three must and the space really reflects it.

Needs to be comfy: I love to sit in the living room and talk for hours on end (with wine in hand) with dear friends. There is nothing worse than having to sit in an uncomfortable chair or area and try to make conversation. I don’t know about you but I do my best socializing when I am most comfortable. Your living room should always be a place where your guests feel welcomed to come, relax, and enjoy themselves. You want them to leave feeling great and knowing they had the absolute best time. To make the space even cozier I recommend adding throw blankets around the room. Either place them hanging from the corner of your couch or throw them in a clear/see-through basket. Making sure the basket isn’t solid will make your space look less harsh and leave the space looking a little larger. I love this Iron Wire basket from AllModern (comes in multiple colors). It creates a great break from the two chairs while keeping the space cozy and comfortable. Remember comfort is key.

Enough Seating for 5+: When you are designing your living room it is always key to think of your spacing. A lot of people don’t have a large enough room for a couch, two/three chairs, and a bench so I would recommend investing in smaller chairs to accompany your couch. I love the way this Acapulco chair from AllModern creates a nice retro look while breaking up the basics of the couch. There is nothing that looks better than a mix of different furniture in a room. It keeps it modern, clean, and creative. If your space is tight I would suggest looking at chairs that have more of a design feel and less of the “traditional” look you see in most living rooms. Your friends will be impressed with the overall look and you will save money and space!

Reflect Your Personality: This is by far the most important on the list. A home is a reflection of you and your life so each room should have details which show your guest what that is. My husband and I love a mid-century home with modern flare so this Acapulco chair and hide stools are a great reflection of our personal style. We have also taken a few things we love to decorate the space – the bar and the shooting gun photo above it. We absolutely love to entertain so having a bar in our home was important. Since we don’t have a wet bar I decided to create a free standing bar so our guest always feel welcome to make themselves a cocktail and enjoy their stay. The photo above the bar was shot by a 16 year old girl from Geneva, Switzerland (where my husband grew up). Having little knick-knacks around the space which are special to you create an experience for those who visit and a basic understanding of who you are.

I hope these few tips on creating your living room space help your future decorating endeavors. You can check out the styling of the Acapulco chair for outdoors here! Can you believe how well it transitions from outdoors to indoors? Stay tuned for one more way to style it!

Acapulco Chair – Reading Nook

Creating a reading nook is 100% personal. To be honest, I created this one to fill an empty space. Our master bedroom is huge and personally, could be much smaller. Being that it is so large we have two very awkward corners to fill. I have been debating buying matching chairs and tables but thought that might be too obvious and too cohesive. So these two corners have been neglected for months as I gave up the search and energy to try to figure out what to do with them. However, when I received this Acapulco Chair from AllModern the first space that came to mind to place it was the corner in the master. Since we have very neutral furniture and very dark wall I thought the contrast would be perfect. Also, the other pieces in our room are pretty retro which makes this the perfect companion piece.

Now, I don’t know the first thing about reading nook because I am not the biggest reader. I keep trying to force myself to finish a new book every so often but I always have the hardest time staying awake – usually because I am in bed and bed signals sleep. I always loved seeing pictures of rooms which would have a little chair to drink coffee in or catch up on your latest book. I never jumped to creating this space for myself because I wasn’t a reader and didn’t know exactly what I would need but it was always in the back of my mind. When this Acapulco chair arrived and I put it in this corner I was instantly inspired. Not only to finish that book which is still sitting on my night stand after months of neglect but also to create a space which was conducive to doing so. The one thing I think a reading nook MUST be is comfy. And the one thing I know about this chair is that it is SO.DAMN.COMFY. So I knew I had the perfect solution.

I originally started designing the space around a lucite side table I own but I wasn’t obsessed with the way the angles were hitting each other. Growing quite frustrated I called my interior decor savor, Molly, for suggestions. She recommend a pile of books. Being that I am a slight hoarder when it comes to coffee table books I thought this was genius. I really love the way the books add pops of color to the otherwise monotone space and also represent what the indented purpose of the space is for – to read. I definitely think the corner needs a little rug or something but for now I am so inspired to cuddle up with this snuggly throw and open a book.

Like I said, reading nook are 100% personal to what your taste and style are. But I do recommend trying to create a space which is not only unique but also stays true to the decor around it. If you are struggling with making it cozy and cohesive I suggest grabbing a pile of books and a garden stool (I love this one) to stack them on or a great blanket and fresh flowers (in similar tones to your paint).

Innit Acapulco Chair

I have been talking about the Innit Acapulco Chair for months now. I first stumbled upon it when stalking my architect crush, Barbara Bestor. Each time I saw the chair I grew more and more in love with it. The design, the versatility, the craftsmanship, and the uniqueness made me swoon. I am a BIG fan of mixing mid-century and modern and this chair is all of that and more. Since I knew I had to have it I began my search for the perfect spot to buy it. And wouldn’t you know my absolute go-to for any home furnishings, AllModern, carried it. And not only carried the single black version I had been seeing around, but loads of other equally badass options.

Let me take a moment to explain my love for AllModern. When I was on the hunt for side tables I couldn’t find ONE place which had the table I wanted at the price I needed. Until I discovered AllModern. They had every option at every price point. I absolutely loved this because it is quite expensive to decorate a home so having options made the entire process so much easier. And every piece was new, modern, and very cool (unlike a lot of the other pieces I was finding). I ended up ordering these side tables which have been absolutely perfect. Style is completely personal so when you find a store which fits every wish you have, you hold on.

Because AllModern is my first option for decor I decided to check out a few of their other accessories. That is when I stumbled upon this merde pillow. Being that my husband speaks french I often times hear this word – mainly on the golf course or in rush hour traffic. It is sadly one of the first french words I learned outside of numbers and please/thank you. So what does it mean? One can only guess…what would a man say after hitting a golf ball out of bounds? Well, I can think of a lot but “shit” is probably one of them. Yup, this amazing pillow says shit in french! I absolutely couldn’t pass it up as it is now one of the husbands and my inside jokes. I kind of like that no one (unless you read this blog or speak slang french) will know what it means when they come over. A very fun and quirky play on a pillow. Especially for this french (semi) speaking home.
