I have a serious problem! I have finally found a designer who not only always makes dresses I love but ones that also fit my body perfectly. This leads to a rather expensive issue known as, Thakoon Addition Addiction. Just google, “Thakoon Addition Caftan,” and see my picture pop up with all the different times I have posted about my favorite dress (or see caftan crazy and caftan lifesaver). And don’t even begin to wonder how many times I have worn my Thakoon Addition caftan outside of my blog. I would not be scared to say it is over 100 times. It is my all-time favorite wardrobe staple. Whether I am wearing it to the lake or a charity function – this dress is always perfect! I was beginning to get a little embarrassed at the number of times I wear it – I mean you can only be seen in the same dress so many times before it is considered ridiculous. Trust me when I say, I am straddling that line between love and clownish.

I was on the lookout for what would be my next “lover” when I decided to check-out Thakoon Addition. Since it was such a score in the past I thought I would give it another go. Let me preface this by saying for the past six months I have also been on the hunt for the perfect shirtdress. Literally searching relentlessly for what I think is something every closet should have, and mine is lacking. The search was by far harder than I thought and I was about to throw in the towel when I saw this gathered-front shirt dress in the Thakoon Addition section. Not only is it one of my favorite designers but I also found the item my heart had been searching for. What I loved most about the dress was that it had added elements to a classic piece – gathering, hi-low hemline, and pockets. I had found the dress! Once it arrived in the mail I wore it that night to a dinner. Sadly, I spilt red wine and beer all over the front so off to the cleaners it went. The day I got it back I wore it immediately anddddddd red wine once again. So maybe I should lay off the red wine but I will not be laying off this dress! It has everything the caftan has, and more! It will be perfect for my next trip (which I am excited to share this week) and a piece that will transition perfectly into fall! You will just have to stay tuned for the million+ ways I will probably wear this one! At least my sweet caftan will get a break!

Dion Lee

Oh Dion Lee! Be still my heart! I first spotted Dion Lee on Nicole from Gary Pepper Vintage Instagram last year. She was wearing this incredible skirt that I could not get off my mind. I immediately bookmarked the designer and said I would check them out when I had time. Eight months later I am finally getting around to tell you all about them. Everything is so unique and tailored that it is hard to not be impressed. I love the minimalistic yet futuristic approach to their designs. They are basic with a twist – hello dream designer!

Okay, so maybe I am not doing him justice in my terrible attempt to write about him or his designs, so I will let you read what the mecca of all fashion, VOGUE said about him. “At times it must seem to Dion Lee like he is balancing the weight of the entire Australian fashion industry, and at 24 that’s quite a load to bear. But while his star may be ascending swiftly, the attention to detail has not been compromised. Inspired by the construction of clothing, traditional tailoring techniques are cleverly morphed with experimental treatments, resulting in cutting-edge garments that are also highly functional – working women seek out the designer’s sharp jackets just as discerning party girls clamber for his inventive cocktail frocks.” Ummmm, wow! Impeccably said, Vouge. You can keep your job!  Anyone else ready to see some of his designs?

Strolling Old Town Scottsdale

Strolling. A very simple idea yet not practiced by all. I never realized how much I love to stroll while in a new place until Molly and I went to London. Usually I would call myself a fast walker but in a new place I try to take my time, look around, and see all that the area has to offer. I try to notice a certain flower, the paint color of the house, or the local decor. Taking mental notes along the way so I don’t forget the images, feeling, or smells after I leave. That is how I like to travel – taking it all in one step and breath at a time. In London I realized I was “strolling,” while Molly was walking at our usual pace. After a few hours of noticing our distinctly different paces, I told her about my idea of the “stroll” and how it would allow her to take mental notes so she wouldn’t forget the little things she saw. She was very appreciative afterwards and wrote about it in an amazing post called, “The Art of Strolling.” While this “art” can be annoying to some people you may travel with, I believe it is the reason we travel. Why speed past down a street when, even if you have been there a million times, there is something new to see? Aren’t you there to take in that culture and all it has to offer? If you go at your normal pace you miss the little things.
A tip that might help you other fast walkers – carry a camera and try to capture five to seven really great pictures. In doing this you will automatically slow down as you are trying to look for that “perfect” shot. It will literally force you to see everything around you.

On the first day in Scottsdale, the hubs and I decided to walk to Old Town. It was beautiful! The sun was out, the flowers were blooming, and the heat hadn’t set in yet – perfect for a stroll. After seeing the shops and art galleries, we ended the mini trip by popping into a local favorite, The Sugar Bowl (more to come on that). Scottsdale has so much beauty. I can’t wait to share more from the trip coming soon! And since we used the, “art of strolling,” I can still tell you about the restaurants, the architecture, the landscape, and all the beauty Old Town had to offer! I know this probably sounds kooky, but next time you are in a new place try to see if you are taking in everything you could be. You might be surprised at just how much you miss!
