Pale Pink Little Girl Nursery

I can’t believe Eleanor’s nursery is finished. I used to wonder what my first childs nursery would look like. I still pinch myself that this is where I am in my life. The process was much different than I expected. I always thought it would be a fun and easy little project to prepare for my first child. However, this little room almost sent me to an early death. It was a combination of stressful, exciting and did I mention stressful! I have a completely new respect for any interior designer! Your job is H.A.R.D! I wanted the space to be a mix of classic, a touch of modern, and elements fun. My original idea was to wallpaper the room but upon deciding to potentially move in the Spring, the financial cost of the actual wallpaper and instillation did not make sense. I then moved to curtains, but again, with the cost of fabric and hiring someone to make them, with approximately 8 months left in this house, didn’t make sense either. So, simple and easy is where I left it!

The space is very calming in person. I find myself, my two dogs, and my husband will just go in there to relax. I really think it is the paint color that helps with the soothing. I went through numerous options and finally settled on the Benjamin Moore ‘Gentle Butterfly’. It is exactly what I wanted: light-pink, calming and classic. I decided to paint the walls and ceiling with it so the white trim would really pop. I think, with the white chandelier, it turned out perfectly!

I always love the use of acrylic pieces in a room as they fill the space without over-cluttering the room with large pieces. Since the room isn’t overly large I knew I would have a few acrylic pieces and the mix of the bookshelf, wall shelving, and frame fit perfectly. As for the rest of the space, I kept things pretty neutral. The Nursery Works rocker, Crib, and changing table were all purchased to balance out the wall-to-wall pink. One of the last things I did was to add a few personal touches. The bear on the wall above the crib is the bear I toted around everywhere with me as a child. And the monogrammed crib sheet is such a sweet way to add personalization to the room.  Overall I am really pleased with how it turned. I can’t wait to bring her home and watch her grow in this room (at least for the next 8 months).

My Favrite Online Framers

I must admit, framed photos are not my jam. I have exactly one photo of the hubs and I in a frame in our house, and it was a gift. I grew up with a mother who loved to frame our photos and while it is so special to go home, see them and reminisce, I realized that they didn’t fit in my more minimalist aesthetic.

Although I don’t have photos of family around the house, I do like to have photos of our travels. Reminiscing of past adventures Brice and I have taken makes me so much happier than seeing my face smiling back at me. I have thousands of photos on many different external hard drives which can make the process of choosing a photo, printing it, and then taking it to get framed daunting. But luckily there are two online framers who do all of the above in one easy process. I wrote about one of the company’s in this post here, but after recently receiving many questions on printers and framers I decided to tell you in more detail about my two favorites.

Framebridge

(two framed photographs in this photo were taken by me and framed using Framebridge)

I have used Framebridge a few times and am always so pleased with their service. I mostly use them when I want either a black or white boarder frame. They make the process of uploading your photo and selecting your matte extremely easy. They also alert you if your photo is too small to print in high quality. What I also like is that they offer an Instagram option which allows you to upload any Instagram photo you have taken and place it in a frame. I have recommended Framebridge to friends and family and everyone can’t believe how amazing their pictures turned out.

Artifact Uprising

(Photo was taken by me and framed using Artifact Uprising)

I discovered Artifact Uprising a few years ago and could not wait to use their Float Frame option. Being that I knew I wanted the large size I waited and waited to find the perfect photo. I finally decided on a photo a shot in Paris of a gorgeous blue door. The process of uploading and choosing the frame was extremely easy. The photo arrived in a week and when I opened the box I was blown away at how expensive it looked. I know $350 is a sizable budget for a photo but the pricing is actually quite competitive when you compare it to using a brick and mortar frame shop. Also, I must reiterate that the quality of the print and the acrylic frame was unreal! As far as hanging goes, they make it super easy with a print out of the actual size of frame and circles on where to put the screws.
I also want to make note that Artifact Uprising also provides a service to print your photos and offers different books (wedding, Instagram, and personal) as well as printed cards. I am actually hoping to purchase this baby book for Eleanor.

What to Drink This Summer – Zephyr Gin

When drinking I love anything refreshing. If I see cucumber or basil in a cocktail, that is always the one I choose. Since it is officially summer here in Dallas I wanted to find a drink recipe that would be light and refreshing but still super easy to whip up. I immediately went to my “Cocktail Buzz” folder in Pinterest to see what I had pinned that fit the bill. Of course I was immediately draw to this Basil-Cucumber cooler from Skinny Taste. It looked easy enough, was gin based (my favorite), and seemed easy on the sugar and calories. Done and done.

I decided to stray from my usual go-to, Hendricks Gin, and try Zephyr. I had recently met the owners of this local gin company and was really impressed by their eye for detail and quality.  Considering the meaning behind their name and that their tag line on their website is, “We believe those who dare to depart from the well-worn path will discover remarkable things in all aspects of life,” I knew it would be a match made in heaven. (Zephyr comes from the west wind that always carried people to new and interesting worlds).

When it comes to gins I am a heavy Juniper and Elderflower fan. I want lots of floral notes! Zephyr was super smooth and had a touch of botanical notes, which I loved. It is a new favorite and was delicious in this cocktail recipe. HOWEVER, if basil and cucumber isn’t your thing, Zephyr has numerous cocktail recipes on their website. I have actually tasted all of them but have to say their “Last Word” was probably my favorite!
