When my friend Lynsey and I get ready for an event the conversation goes something like this, “Are you going to dress up?” “Probably, what will you wear?” “Oh, just jeans, a button-up, and heels.” “Perfect, me too.”

There is something so classic about a button-up and jeans. The look has been around for decades, although with different accessories and styles, it has remained pretty much the same. The masculinity and minimalistic approach are my two favorite things about it. For countless years women have stolen their mens shirts. I do it on the regular and can usually be found hopping around town in the hubs shirts (or on the blog). I don’t know why it is but I always feel like Brice picks out better button-ups than I do. This is what I have learned about how men pick out shirts – material, fit, price. It is so simple that it makes me laugh at myself for spending hours debating on a wether or not to get a single blouse. I oooh and ahh about the style, the brand, the way it falls, the way it feels, the colors, the pattern, the weight, and so on and so on. I mean really we should take a tip from the men and decide, “do we like it?” Yes. “Will we wear it a lot?” Yes. “Are the price and quality in line?” Yes. Then buy the damn button-up. black and white.

You can style a button-up a million+ ways (here are 21 ideas from Stylecaster). It is essential to every closet to have a great fitting, white button-up. I don’t use the word “investment” a lot on this blog because I think there are only a few pieces in your closet worth the splurge – this is one of them! I would spend a decent amount of money on a solid button-up that fits correctly because the price per wear ratio is really good. Once you have your perfect solid blouse (best selection on the web) you can move on to different colors, patterns, and styles. If I am not wearing a t-shirt you can guarantee I am in a button-up. I love throwing it on with jeans and flats for a relaxed look or with heels for a night out. Clearly the material of the blouse will depict how casual or dressy the look is so I suggest starting your collection with one cotton and one silk (I live in this one) – day and night. Wether you are like Lynsey and myself and wear the look out or want to run errands around town, you will get a lot of use out of this purchase! Just be sure it fits like it was made for you!

I have hand selected a few options below to get your collection going!

I love gold, dainty jewelry. As much as I love it, I don’t feel like I own enough of it. I often envy my friend Molly and Sam from, Could I Have That who always seem to have the best collection. Jewelry, as of late, is one of the first things I notice on a person. Being the minimalist I am, I have never quite gotten around to investing in pieces. It is a shame because the pieces I do have I wear, all.the.time. My Dana Rebecca necklaces are always on repeat and my Glam Rocks rings are always one of the first things I grab. Other than a few other pieces, my collection is low. I have been so busy spending time and money on finding new outfits that I have neglected one of the key essentials to completing a look – accessories.

The thing I love most about dainty pieces – they complete a look but keep it clean. Perfect for all of you other ‘no fuss, keep it minimal’ lovers out there. I have really been trying to be cautious of how and where I spend my money recently so that I can start investing in quality  pieces of jewelry. When I stumbled upon Loren Stewart on Instagram, I fell in love. Not only with her clean and cool aesthetic but also with her overall brand. Anyone who plays french music in their video is okay by me! Her pieces are quickly taking over my wish list and how could you blame me when she makes rings as cool as this? I love the way make a statement and fill the void that accessories need to without being too over powering. I love when you can wear the same piece with jeans and a t-shirt as you can with a cocktail dress and they fit perfectly with both. Loren has mastered this! Her pieces are everything your collection needs!

Annie is making a surprise appearance in today’s post! My sweet hubs loves bringing her to our photo sessions and this particular day she decided to get in EVERY SHOT. She would sit right behind me and face the camera and pose. It.was.so.cute. Even if it made the session twice as long, how can you get mad at a face like that?! I am always happy to have my little Annie Veuve on the blog!

This past fall and winter I really got into wearing blacks and greys. They were easy, minimal, chic, and took no “thinking” time in the closet. My kind of look! I still love wearing those colors but recently I have been craving a bright pop. I find myself browsing online sites and selecting to only “search” for baby blues and blush pinks. I find myself laughing that I am searing for a “pink,” when last year I banned the shade from my closet, thinking I was “too cool for pink.” I am eating my humble pie because now I can’t get enough. I think there is definitely a fine line of wearing pink – the way you style it and the shade of it. I like sticking with very minimal styling and either a blush shade or a very deep (almost coral) shade. Anywhere in between and you lose me. Coral is beautiful on most all skin tones so I have found a few options for you to shop below… hope you find something you like!
