Hotel Au Vieux Panier

Be still my heart. While this hotel room may cause some of you a panic attack it has me chomping at the bits to get on a plane and reserve a room. The Half Graffiti Room at hotel Au Vieux Panier is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen. Not only is it mind blowing that they created a completely two-sided room but the graffiti is out of this world. However, as excited as it makes me it appears I am three years too late!

Hotel Au Vieux Panier, located in Marseille France is one of the most badass hotels I have ever read about. The hotels concept is six rooms for six artists. The idea is to offer an artist a three-dimensional canvas and have people sleep in an artwork. They believe it gives the opportunity to visitors to see art in a different way, entering an artist’s universe. Every year the hotel calls for entries and then selects the most striking and interesting universe. Each year for about a month the hotel is closed and the new artists begin work on their creations. The idea that rooms change yearly is incredibly cool, however, I am a bit sad I am so late to the game! I would have loved a chance to stay in this room!

For this years room selection you can check out Hotel Au Vieux Panier’s website!

Chic Boyfriend Jean Style

When I was a little girl I liked to call myself tomboy. Although looking back I think I liked the label better than I liked the style. I used to tell people that I liked to get dirty and hated dresses but really, I liked being clean and I liked dresses. So I can’t say that I could ever call myself a real tomboy. Unless not washing your hair for a week and wearing your husbands clothes counts?

However, I really like the idea of being a tomboy. Wearing baggy jeans and loose tops. I mean, can you think of anything more comfortable? I have a pair of boyfriend jeans that I spent way too much money on for the amount I wear them. I find them hard to style and I have (annoyingly) pounded in my head that they look better on itty bitty girls. But, I hold on to them because I really like the idea of them – comfy, loose, versatile, fashionable. Since I already feel kind of awkward in boyfriend jeans I try to always have one feminine piece. In this look I went with my favorite vintage jacket from St. John. It is a little on the preppy side for me but I find it goes with anything and can make a look really unique. Since I am holding out on the idea of boyfriend jeans I plan to style them a new way every few weeks. I really like the idea of unrolling them and wearing them as long, baggy jeans but I have yet to try it out! If you have any suggestions I would love to hear because, the.struggle.is.real!

Hotel des Balances, Lucerne Switzerland

I often get asked what is one of my favorite cities? My answer is always the same: Lucerne Switzerland. I absolutely fell in love with the charm and beauty of the city, as well as my husband. It was at the end of a week long road trip through Switzerland and Lucerne was one of our last stops. I remember just looking at him and knowing, he was the man I was going to marry. Of course the backdrop of the beautiful city didn’t hurt!

We decided to stay at Hotel des Balances which was one of the best decisions I have made. From the moment we pulled up it was so extraordinarily beautiful that it was hard to not fall in  love. Upon checking-in I knew this hotel was going to be an amazing experience. We booked a room overlooking the river and the Chapel Bridge which was absolutely perfect for a first timer to Lucerne. The hotel itself is situated between the fish and wine markets and a perfect location for any site seeing or walking tours you want to do. We personally spent the days walking the streets, popping in different eateries, and sitting on the benches watching the water. It is a simple city but the beauty and calmness is definitely something to experience. I always recommend traveling to Lucerne if you are in Switzerland and if you can, stay at Hotel des Balances. From the staff, to the rooms, to the eateries – you will not be disappointed.
