Microdermabrasion with Skintastic

I have already explained how much I have been keeping up on my skincare routine as of late. It is easy to start a routine but hard to maintain it. At least for me. I start diets, workouts, beauty regimes, etc. but maintaining it after two or three weeks is the challenge. However, I made a pact to myself that I would take my microdermabrasion seriously. I wouldn’t miss a treatment and I would go right on time. The hardest part of starting a routine is the lack of immediate results. I am a “now, now, now,” type of person so if I start a diet and don’t lose weight right away I get annoyed and usually stop. Not that I am a quitter I just tell myself that there are other ways to achieve my desired result. But there never are. There are never shortcuts. You must put in the time, commitment, and dedication. That is why I told myself there wasn’t going to be any slacking when it came to my microderm.

However, there didn’t need to be a come to Jesus talk with myself, after the first treatment I could see massive results. I was beyond excited for my second treatment as I knew the results would be even better. I scheduled my appointment with Karen (who I am semi-obsessed with) at Skintastic and I waited for the day to come. My skin from the last treatment was still glowing but I wanted even moreeee. My second treatment included the microderm, a little acid peel, and a touch or two of photofacial laser. This was all Karen’s concoction to give me the ultimate glowing skin. And it worked! She is seriously talented!

The microderm has me feeling very confident as I posted a photo from my iphone with no make-up. Did you hear me? My IPHONE with NO MAKE-UP!!! I feel brave! Literally the only thing I have on my skin is sunscreen! Can you believe it? I am so smitten with the results that I don’t know if I ever want to stop going! I have one more treatment scheduled when I return in August which I am already look forward to! But first, Paris!

Lately I have been focusing A LOT on my skin. I have come to understand that the damage I did growing up is completely haunting me now and more than ever before I am scared to add any more damage. I am a sunscreen nazi and never try to keep my face in the sun for very long. Not only am I trying to avoid the rays but I have also been much more cogniseseznt of the products I use and how often I get treatments. I used to never take time to get facials unless my mom kindly bought them for me. They seemed like one of life’s little luxuries that could be afforded to be skipped. At least until I got “old” and needed them. Oh how I was wrong! I have come to learn that you can’t wait until you “need them” as then it is too late. You must be proactive and get ahead of the curve.

Because I had no clue where to start I got in touch with Skintastic, a local plastic surgery and treatment center. I had heard great things about them in the past and after doing my research I knew this was the place to be. After a look over the “menu” I decided a Microdermabrasion was exactly what my dry, lifeless skin needed. A microdermabrasion, also called a Lunchtime Peel, is a skin polishing technique, which blasts fine particles of sand-like crystals (aluminum oxide or table salt) against the skin. After that the crystals, along with dirt and dead skin, are vacuumed away and you are left with the most radiant, glowing, smooth skin. The entire process takes about 30 minutes and is completely painless.

After my treatment with Karen, who is amazing and I HIGHLY recommend, my skin was literally transformed. The next day I received THREE compliments from complete strangers. The photo above was taken two days after the treatment and has no airbrushing! Before the Micro I swore I needed botox but now I am thinking all I need is to take the time to head to Skintastic to treat my skin. I have had microdermabrasion in the past but none have transformed my skin the way this one did. Perhaps my skin was that desperate but never-the-less I will be going back for more. I actually plan to do one or two more before my summer abroad. After all, the french hardly wear make-up and have the most gorgeous skin so it is imperative I get mine Paris ready!

Ever since I was allowed to wear make-up I have enjoyed learning about it. It may be because my mother always did a fabulous job when it came to putting hers on and I always wanted to do the same. I was intrigued with what went where and the proper way of putting it there. I still remember when my mom finally told me I could start wearing make-up. I was in the 6th grade when she and my sister to took me for an appointment at Clinique. My mom always wanted us to know the appropriate ways of wearing make-up and a good skincare routine to take it off. I loved it from that moment!

While makeup and I have had out up’s and down’s, usually the downs include me refusing to wear it, I mostly get joy out of putting it on. I always tell myself it is my blank canvas for me to create. And while I was never any good at painting or drawing, this was my art. Because I have an interest in make-up I have recently tried learning all I can about contouring (video on creating the look). If I want to learn something, be it photography, video, a language, etc.,  I always start googling and researching. I am completely self taught in most avenues of my life and make-up is no different. When I wanted to learn more about contouring I ran to the Internet. Over the years I have watched some amazing videos on different ways to create the look.

One frustration I always had was finding the right brightening stick. In the videos all of the girls achieved this beautiful bright look with one product and mine always fell short. I would even buy the items they had and was never fully convinced they were doing what I wanted. Last year I decided to take a trip to Sephora and see what the deal was. Once there I was recommended the Nars ‘Immaculate Complexion’ Concealer. The stick was amazing and gave enough coverage to hide blemishes and last all day. I also bought it two shades lighter than my normal skin tone so it gave me the bright look I was after. If you are also after the contour look – thanks Kim K. – I highly recommend finding products which work for you. A few things I learned from my contouring research is it is key to have the right products, practice is your friend, and to understand that it takes quite a bit of time to achieve (the girl at Sephora said it should take 30 min. to blend), so be patient!
