This past July I had the opportunity to travel abroad with my parents and husband. It was a magical trip! We were able to visit my in-laws in Geneva and then head to Normandy (which was my Dad’s childhood dream), Paris, and London. It was a trip of a lifetime and held memories I will never forget! My parents sent my sister and I abroad when I was still in high school and one of the trips we took was to Normandy. We visited the WWII memorials, the beaches of D-day, the American Cemetery, and the churches. It was an unforgettable trip but very emotionally draining. It was something I could say that I did but didn’t have the strength to go back. To see all of the memorials for boys who never made it home really hits hard, especially the American Cemetery! Coming from a very patriotic family, I didn’t think I had it in me to go back. But my dad has always wanted to see it so back to Normandy we travelled. The entire experience was just as I remembered but one that I do believe every American should have. I took a lot of beautiful photos of the memorials and cemeteries but am still debating on whether I will post them. I did want to share parts of the town Bayeux, next to Normandy. It was so quaint, quiet, and beautiful. It was almost like time had never effected it. Although I know it was a very different scene 70 years ago, today, it is lovely! The flowers were blooming, the aging buildings were absolutely appealing, and the cobblestone on the street was so charming. It was like a set out of a movie and I absolutely loved it!
I hope you have a chance to make it over there one day. It is an experience that will stay with you forever! If you are headed there anytime soon I do have some suggestions so feel free to e-mail me!
