QUOTE IT

I LOVE quotes. My best friend and I read them all the time and turn to them when we need advice. We used to have a blog together where quotes were a main component and I miss that. After thinking about it I decided Friday was a great day to post a little burst of inspiration.

I knew this one was the perfect way to start it off as my mom is coming in town for a girls weekend. Girls weekend entails lots of champagne and yummy food; two of my true loves. However, Β I better not eat too much because…duh duh dum… MY DRESS IS HERE!! After almost five months of waiting it finally arrived yesterday. Β I can’t wait to just look at it and touch it (total bride moment). I am dying to share it with you all.

Okay, so on to another topic I need help with, the honeymoon. The fiance and I don’t know where we want to go or if you totally splurge or save. We both really want to re-do his closet and add a great bar. To go all out on the house or the honeymoon? Do any of ya’ll have advice? Would you rather have a really killer honeymoon or honeymoon (smaller) and closet and bar? I am leaning toward the latter only because we will be living in the house and can travel whenever we want but I know you only have one honeymoon so I need outside advice.

I hope you all have a happy and safe weekend. If you are just now catching up on M.A.S. from the week, here is what you missed:
1/13/13- RING RING
1/15/13- CAVIAR
1/16/13- THE, SOFIE LYDDON (my favorite of the week)

  1. Hey Mary!
My husband and I were going to India 6 months after we got married so he could meet the rest of my family. This left us with little vacation days and the wedding left us with little money left (LOL). I booked us an all-inclusive vacation for Riviera Maya on Cheapcaribbean.com and it was about $800 each with flight (all food and all drinks). You have to do your research and compare the deal with the reviews on tripadvisor but it was the perfect low cost honeymoon for us. Hope this helps!

  2. So happy your dress is here! That is so exciting. Sadly I cannot help you with the honeymoon sitch… πŸ˜‰ Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

  3. We had a destination wedding, which cost us so much we couldn’t decide between a great honeymoon or focusing on our home. My advice would be to do both but at your own pace. We decided not to have a honeymoon right after our wedding, to give us some time to save up a little more and choose a destination that suited us both. Having the extra months also meant we had time to think about how to set up our home – what both of us really wanted, budget, timing etc. Things changed right after our wedding as the man got an offer in a new country, so now planning for our new home has completely changed but we have one big thing to look forward to: our honeymoon (we’re heading to Morocco for 2 weeks). I don’t think you should ever compromise our your honeymoon. Figure out what both of you want to do first, and go from there. It’s all about timing. There’s nothing wrong with having the perfect closet, bar and honeymoon! xx

  4. Oh my gosh, getting the dress is SO exciting – congrats! As for the honeymoon, hubby and I are renting inevitably – he’s in medical school with plenty of years left of rotations and moving – so we went all out on the honeymoon. We flew to London, stayed there, Paris, and Barcelona; We budgeted like crazy but spent plenty, and you know what? It was worth every penny! We endlessly talk about our honeymoon! If you’re big into travel, budget carefully but go somewhere amazing!

  5. Hey Mary!
I adore your blog πŸ™‚ And of course your engagement photo’s too. Here are mine (http://fashiongalfireman.blogspot.com/2012/07/our-engagement-photos.html) we “took the plunge!”.
I also love how “clean” your blog is too! I usually try and shoot a note over to the peeps I write a link about… but didn’t have time this morning. How did you know I linked you??? I’m so happy you found me! I hope you have a fabulous weekend πŸ™‚

    xx, Vanessa

  6. My husband and I took a “mini-moon” two days after the ceremony (3 days at a b&b in the mountains and the snow), and a “honeymoon” 8 months later, because we had some other things we wanted to get done first. Personally, I would have been a wreck had I tried to “honeymoon” as a getaway from the wedding. If I were in your shoes, I’d want my house “just so” first. But, whatever the two of you decide, it will be perfectly “you”. Enjoy, and be radically blessed. <3

  7. I didn’t want to spend the money on a honeymoon and my husband really, REALLY did. After 8 years of college and grad school, he just wanted a vacation. His tax return last year was large enough to cover it, so we did go to Aruba, and it was WONDERFUL to sleep in and lie on a beach and swim and explore and eat good food, all at our own pace. While I don’t think you HAVE to go on a far away honeymoon, I do think there are wonderful affordable options — and I know you won’t regret that down time alone with your new hubby!

    1. So so true! I know having that time away for just the two of you is so important. Love the advice on affordable options because you are SO right! I will never look back and regret spending that money. I just wish we could do it all πŸ™‚

Thank you for taking the time to write and give advice. It means so much!
      xx

  8. Girrrrrl. Dave and I are also trying to figure out the honeymoon thing. I’m planning on doing a “mini-moon”- go away for a long weekend after the wedding and then save up and go somewhere really nice in 2-3 months. Maybe you can book a later honeymoon which allows you to get that closet + bar… I think its important to go somewhere nice (you only do it once!).
p.s I just ordered my dress. I cannot wait to see yours.

    1. Ahhh, isn’t it stressful!!! It is like, I know it happens once in a life but my house is for the next like 10 years! Decisions!
LOVE the idea of the mini moon! I might steal that! Where are yall going?
Thanks for the advice! You are so sweet!!

You are so sweet to give the advice. I totally agree…bar and closet will get me excited EVERYDAY not just one week! Great advice!!!

  9. Such a fun quote, too bad I don’t like champagne, haha…so we can change that to “chocolate” for me πŸ˜‰
And woohoo for your dress!!! I can’t wait to see it, haha. Aaand….I think I would save on the honeymoon and spend on the house! πŸ™‚ You can always have a second, really big, honeymoon after 5 years or something πŸ˜€
