Engagement Shoot Inspiration

In the next few days I have my engagement photo shoot. I originally planned to nix them all together as I found them (no offense) rather cheesy. I know I “pose” for pictures on my blog but something about two people standing there looking at the camera trying to be normal while holding hands or standing in front of a red brick wall is just soooo awkward.  It might be all personal but I just have never been a fan of couples pictures. Well since my amazing wedding planner told me that the engagement pictures were included in the photo package I bought I decided we would do them and keep them only for ourselves.
I am super cautious to do anything that is “stereotypical” wedding. I want mine, like every bride I know, to be personal and “us.” To assure that we accomplish those two things in our shoot I emailed my sweet photographer these exact photos and told her I don’t want anything that is posed or forced. I want more editorial and something we can look back on and smile. She immediately wrote back and said, “yes I love that. We are totally on the same page. It is more about capturing this ‘cute moment’ instead of ‘lets pose for this moment and try and make it look cute.'” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
I know I am probably setting up a big hole to fall into telling someone I want editorial  as I know it is easier said than done but we will do our best. We are going to have a blast and make the most of the day (with a few cocktails, of course. nothing like a little liquid courage).  I know whatever we end up with will be perfect as I will be getting to spend quality time with my fiance and we can look back on them and smile no matter what they look like but selfishly I do hope we can capture the same organic feel in these pictures.

  1. I can’t wait to hear about it! I felt the exact same way so we didn’t take engagement pics. We just took family pics (+ little man) and it still felt silly but I’m glad we did it (mostly for the pics of the wee one).

Please please please don’t take any where you are pushed up into a door frame, kissing. Mmkay? Thanks! Just kidding. But no, really.

  2. If at any point you find yourself trying to look like you just happened to be standing on railroad tracks gazing longingly at your future. Stop. Drink. And start over.
